Mindful living
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at Birmingham.
We know how important it is to live sustainably and we’re here to help you do just that. As a civic university, where students from all social and cultural backgrounds are welcomed and treated equally, we’re committed to shaping a better, more sustainable future for us all. This informs everything we do, from our research through to our accommodation.
All our residences encourage green living and come well-equipped with a range of recycling facilities and energy saving features (e.g., solar panels). Your student life will be powered by low carbon energy and we have campus e-scooter and bike schemes to help you get around sustainably. We also have our very own train station, University, making it easy to embrace low-carbon travel.
Birmingham’s also home to The Green Community, which is made-up of likeminded students that share a passion for sustainability, and there’s plenty of green initiatives to get involved with. For example, there’s the ‘Grow with Joe’ community garden, where you can grow your own fruit and veg and turn your leftovers into quality compost to reduce food waste.
